GIS Certification Institute (GISCI) Launches PreGISP Program to Support Emerging GIS Professionals

[Des Plaines, IL] – The GIS Certification Institute (GISCI) is proud to launch the PreGISP program, a new initiative designed to help emerging Geographic Information Systems (GIS) professionals gain early industry recognition. Launching this April, the PreGISP program serves as a pathway for recent and soon-to-be graduates to transition from academic studies to professional practice.

As an official precursor to the CESB-accredited GISP certification, the PreGISP credential provides early-career professionals with an opportunity to demonstrate their skills and commitment to the GIS field. To become an Emerging GIS Professional (GISP-E), candidates must pass the PreGISP exam and be a recent or upcoming graduate of an accredited academic institution. Those who successfully earn the credential will receive the GISP-E designation, highlighting their dedication to professional growth.

“We’re excited to launch the PreGISP program and support aspiring GIS professionals as they begin their careers,” said Tony Spicci, Executive Director at GISCI. “This credential serves as a bridge between academic learning and professional practice, equipping graduates with a competitive advantage as they enter the workforce.”

The first PreGISP testing window will take place from April 21–28, 2025, with exams proctored online. The deadline to register is April 7, 2025. For more details and updates on the PreGISP program, visit https://www.gisci.org/PreGISP.
