Topcon Announces RTP-300 for High-speed Surface Profiling

The RTP-300’s data collection system includes a Topcon GNSS dual-constellation satellite receiver system, three laser profilers, wheel encoder technology and a comprehensive computer data collection system.

Tony Vanneman, TPS construction product marketing manager, said, “The RTP-300 system can be quickly and easily installed onto any vehicle with a trailer hitch, making it a mobile surveying vehicle that generates a higher resolution topography map than conventional surveying methods in a fraction of the time and with superior accuracy.” In addition to producing high-resolution topography maps, the RTP-300 system is capable of producing industry standard reports such as PRI and IRI.

Vanneman said, “The system is composed of field-proven components that are portable, lightweight and modular for plug-and-play functionality, thus providing a system that can be utilized in several aspects of the construction market.”

The system uses three lasers to profile the existing road. This laser data combined with the GNSS data can be used to accurately determine the various degrees of roughness or smoothness of the road surface. The collected data file can then be used in Topcon’s SiteMaster design software or any standard CAD software made for design applications.

Vanneman said the RTP-300 technology provides the ability to use the corrected design data on a paver, profiler or any machine control system to provide exact road data at every step of a construction project. “Easily install the system, scan surfaces, and process the data for instant reporting, surface verification and ride-ability indexes.

“The RTP-300 will set the standard for quick and accurate creation of high-resolution surface profiling.”
