Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils move to cloud GIS

Cadcorp cloud hosted desktop GIS and web mapping supports Councils’ shared service partnership

Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils work together to provide services throughout central Suffolk. They are the latest in a series of Cadcorp customers to take advantage of a cloud migration path to transition their on-premise desktop Geographic Information System (GIS) and web mapping to the cloud.

Existing Cadcorp SIS Desktop licences are being transitioned to a Cadcorp cloud-hosted and managed environment. SIS Desktop in the cloud can be accessed by both councils as a virtual desktop application or via a web browser. No specialist hardware or resources are required making it ideal for remote and flexible working. The software is maintained and upgraded by Cadcorp, allowing users to immediately benefit from new functionality within the latest release.

Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils are migrating Cadcorp SIS WebMap to the cloud which includes Local Knowledge™, and the Edit and ReportIT modules. The Councils are also taking advantage of the Cadcorp Spatial Database Service and Cadcorp Ordnance Survey® MasterMap Topographic Vector Service. This will give them quick and easy access to the latest vector Ordnance Survey MasterMap Topography Layer. Cadcorp will manage both the software and map updates.

Migrating GIS technology to the cloud can bring a significant number of benefits to local authorities. It has the potential to reduce both the overall cost of ownership and the administration overhead of keeping software and data up to date. As part of the service Cadcorp will install, set up and maintain the software on the Councils’ behalf.

Gary Randle, Sales Director at Cadcorp commented: “As part of the Councils’ ‘Working Together’ partnership, they collaborate to share insight and resources. Having SIS Desktop and SIS WebMap in the cloud will support this approach by providing both councils with online user and admin access to the latest Cadcorp software.”

Cadcorp offers cloud hosting for a wide range of Cadcorp software and services. To find out more, visit https://cdcp.io/cloud-host.
