Verus® Research Awarded $9.7 Million Contract for Space Technology Research and Development Improving the Future of Space Communications

Albuquerque, N.M.  – Verus® Research, a New Mexico-based team of scientists and engineers specializing in advanced research and development, announces it has been awarded a 57-month, $9.7 million contract from the Air Force Research Laboratory’s (AFRL) Space Vehicles Directorate, which serves as the Department of Air Force’s “center of excellence” for space technology research and development.  Verus Research partnered with several other industry leading technology companies and institutions including Vulcan Wireless, PnP Innovations, IDEAS Engineering & Technology, Libration Systems Management, SA Photonics, Tau Technologies, Fibertek, and the University of New Mexico for this initiative which will work on improving the future of space communications.

“We are honored to receive our largest contract from AFRL’s Space Vehicles Directorate,” said Dr. J. Mark DelGrande, chief technology officer for Verus Research. “This award will allow our team to develop advanced network architectures, components, and systems such as radio-frequency and free space optical communications platforms to advance the state of the art in satellite communications.”

Verus Research’s initial work under the new contract will include developing coordinated satellite control solutions through reinforcement learning and runtime assurance as well as assisting AFRL in standing up the Local Intelligent Networked Collaborative Satellites (LINCS) lab.  Dr. DelGrande described this as a “landmark win” for the Verus Research team.
