Skytec Explores Next Frontier of Geospatial Innovation Through Planet Partnership

The partnership tethers Skytec to the largest fleet of Earth-imaging satellites, providing data-based solution opportunities in the energy, forestry and agriculture verticals among others.

Chattanooga, Tennessee  — Skytec, LLC, a Tennessee-based leader in unmanned aerial systems (UAS), remote sensing and geographic information systems (GIS) technologies,  announced today a partnership with Planet Labs Inc. Headquartered in San Francisco, California, Planet is a commercial aerospace company that designs, builds, and operates an impressive fleet of Earth-observation satellites that image the entire Earth every day. Planet also offers online software, tools and analytics that deliver data to users.

“When Andy Carroll and I launched Skytec five years ago, we did so knowing we wanted to use emerging technologies to solve real-world problems,” said Skytec Chief Executive Officer, Bill Rogers. “This partnership with Planet gives us increased opportunities to do that, especially in the environmental realm. By connecting our platforms and sharing image-based data accessed from various altitudes, we will be able to clearly visualize and understand assets, natural resources, and the rapidly changing world around us.”

Founded in 2015, Skytec has quickly emerged as a trendsetter in the UAS, remote sensing, and GIS sectors. The first-ever ARGUS Platinum Partner for safety standards in the unmanned aerial systems space, Skytec in January of this year unveiled its Esri Silver Partner status which gives the company access to the world’s most powerful mapping and spatial analytics software.

“Working with the team at Skytec, we are showing what’s possible when you combine the power of daily delivered satellite imagery with unmanned systems,” said James DeCesare, Head of Partnerships for the Americas at Planet. “We are thrilled to partner with Skytec to offer this unique capability to our growing base of enterprise customers throughout the United States.”
