New dates and venue for GEO Business 2020

The UK’s largest geospatial event will now take place on 24-25 September at the new venue ExCeL London

Following increasing concern about the developing coronavirus situation, GEO Business organiser Diversified Communications UK has consulted with the industry and decided to change the event dates to 24-25 September 2020.

The event will also move from its previous location at the Business Design Centre to the new venue ExCeL London.

Carsten Holm, managing director of Diversified Communications UK, says: “GEO Business is one of the most important business events for the geospatial industry. A lot of companies rely on it to meet new and current customers, so this decision has not been taken lightly.

“However, the response to the outbreak is unprecedented and I think many would agree that it is not a climate in which we want to hold the show. The success, as well as the safety of our exhibitors and visitors, have always been our priority and this continues to be the case. We have been overwhelmed with support on the decision to move the show to new dates, including from our show partners AGI, CICES, TSA, ICE and RICS.

“We fully understand and appreciate the level of planning that is required to attend a trade event and are so grateful that visitor registration has stayed strong despite the amount of media coverage surrounding COVID-19. GEO Business would like to thank everyone – our exhibitors, visitors, partners and suppliers for their continued support and patience during this challenging time. I know that the community will pull together during these difficult weeks. We look forward to seeing everyone in September.”

Portfolio director Caroline Hobden says: “After six successful years at the Business Design Centre, we have taken the decision to move GEO Business to the new venue ExCeL London. As the show has continued to grow, we have been looking to move to an alternative venue in 2021. However, the current situation presented an opportunity to make the move ahead of plan this year. Best of all, this new tenancy keeps the show in the heart of London.

“We value the support the industry has shown us in these challenging times, and we look forward to getting the geospatial community back together in September.”

Despite the change of date and venue, feedback from the industry is positive:

Simon Navin, head of Innovation Programmes at Ordnance Survey, says: “We’re right behind this decision. Well done to all for being so diligent and thoughtful during what is a challenging time. I have no doubt that the rescheduled GEO Business will be the best yet.”

Rachel Tyrell, secretary general of TSA, says: “Well done to the team on managing to secure a new date, during what is a very stressful time for everyone – particularly those in event management! We look forward to an excellent event in the late summer/early autumn.”

GEO Business 2020 Chairman Martin Penney says: “We echo the GEO Business team’s thoughts, comments and brave leadership at this time of uncertainty. We completely support their decision and look forward to a great event at ExCeL London in September.”

GEO Business 2020 registration is still open

GEO Business will take place at the new venue ExCeL London, from 24-25 September 2020.
