Steven MacDonald, PLS, P.Eng., Tapped to Lead McLaren’s Geomatics Division

McLaren Engineering Group, a full-service engineering firm, announced today that it is expanding its leadership team, appointing Steven MacDonald as Albany Regional Director and Geomatics Division Principal. In his new role, MacDonald will oversee the firm’s growing Capital District office while also managing McLaren’s Geomatics division nationwide.

“Steven’s impressive background brings a strong blend of technical expertise and leadership skills – having managed complex assignments and multiple teams locally and internationally,” said Dawson Bloom, Vice President of Civil Engineering and Geomatics at McLaren. “We are excited have him heighten McLaren’s already diverse offerings.”

MacDonald brings a strong track record of success to McLaren, gained from previous positions at TerraSond Limited and Alpine Ocean Seismic Survey, Inc., where he specialized in project and operations management. MacDonald is a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), Certified Hydrographer and Professional Land Surveyor with experience managing complex projects globally and developing business solutions. His specialties include bathymetric surveys, 4D full life span monitoring, remote sensing and offshore wind services.

“With an impressive nationwide project roster, McLaren has earned a tremendous reputation for quality engineering and surveying services,” said MacDonald. “As the firm continues to strengthen its industry foothold, I am excited to use my experience and skills to help lead this cutting-edge team.”

MacDonald has managed some of the world’s largest survey, geophysical, geotechnical and environmental projects, including the Bay State Wind project in Massachusetts, Submarine Cable Systems for Virginia’s Marine Cable Route and various projects along the Gulf of Mexico.

He has overseen projects for various state and federal government agencies, including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration. MacDonald has also successfully led assignments for the top oil and gas companies and various power and telecom agencies.

“Steven’s dynamic blend of experience in geoscience, hydrography and environmental sciences align perfectly with McLaren’s strategically expanding service offerings,” said McLaren Engineering Group President Jeremy Billig. “His background and expertise are sure to support our growth in the Albany region and our geomatics division nationwide.”

McLaren’s private and public clients in the Albany region include the Albany Port District Commission, EYP Architecture & Engineering, Harrison & Burrowes Bridge Constructors, Kirchhoff-Consigli Construction Management, New York State Department of Transportation, New York State Office of General Services, New York State Power Authority, New York State Thruway Authority/Canal Corporation and Saratoga Associates.

MacDonald’s appointment follows ongoing company-wide growth for McLaren, as the firm continues to strengthen its footprint with expansions in New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia.

MacDonald holds a Bachelor of Science in Geomatics and Geodesy Engineering from the University of New Brunswick. MacDonald is part of the New York State Association of Professional Land Surveyors, the American Shore and Beach Preservation Association, the Association of Petroleum Surveying and Geomatics and the Hydrographic Society of America, among others.
