Winners of the Space Foundation’s 10th Annual International Student Art Contest Announced

• 25 winners selected from 58 countries
• 5,598 entries submitted
• Space Achievement Award winner is Chev Cedric from the Phillippines

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The Space Foundation has announced the winners of its 10^th Annual Space Foundation International Student Art Contest, co-sponsored by Earth Observing System. The 25 winners represent four U.S. states and 10 countries, with one entry chosen for the Space Achievement Award.

The Space Foundation invited public, private, and homeschool children ages 3–18 from around the world to submit original artwork depicting this year’s theme, “How Exploring Space Improves Life on Earth.” The annual contest is free to enter, and the response for 2020 included more than 5,500 entries from 29 U.S. states and 58 countries, including South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, Nepal, and Serbia.

The winning entries will be on display at the Space Foundation’s 36^th Space Symposium, to be held March 30 – April 2, 2020, at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Colo., USA. After the Symposium, the winning art will be displayed at Space Foundation Headquarters and Discovery Center in Colorado Springs. Winning artwork submitted for this year’s contest can be seen on the International Student Art Contest website gallery at https://art.spacefoundation.org/2020-art-contest-winners, and all of the submitted artwork can be viewed at http://art.spacefoundation.org. The winning artwork will also be available for viewing on the Space Foundation’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest social media pages.

 

“We had another very successful contest this year, which happened to be our second largest in global participation in the 10 years we’ve held the contest,” stated Nancy Reed, Director – Marketing & Creative Services for the Space Foundation. “Even after 10 years, and having received over 38,237 entries to date, I am still amazed each year by the uniqueness of each piece of artwork, and by the level of creativity and talent displayed by the student artists that have participated. Love and appreciation for our Earth and space, as portrayed through the eyes of our contest participants from all over the world, is universal and inspiring.”

 

The winners will receive an astronaut autograph, certificate, ribbon, and an art kit.

 

In August 2020, the Space Foundation will make an announcement about the 2021 contest.

 

About the Contest

Students were invited to enter artwork in the following media formats: drawing, painting, mixed media, and digital. The contest featured eight age categories, with first, second, and third place honors for each of the age categories, plus one Space Foundation Achievement Award.

 

The 2020 winners are listed by first name only in consideration of the children’s privacy.
