Blue Marble Geographics to introduce new academic lab for processing drone or UAV-collected imagery with live webinar in January

Hallowell, Maine Blue Marble Geographics® is hosting a live webinar that will introduce the addition of photogrammetric point cloud processing from drone or UAV-captured images to the GIS software company’s free academic curriculum. The webinar is an online interactive event designed for educators in higher education and begins at 2:00 p.m. EST on Wednesday, January 8, 2020.

The free broadcast will provide an overview of Blue Marble’s academic programs that offer students and educators in the U.S. and Canada an academic curriculum, a scholarship opportunity, and free access to Global Mapper®, the LiDAR Module® and Geographic Calculator® — the company’s renowned GIS and geodetic software. Through these programs, colleges and universities can deploy Blue Marble applications for classroom teaching, hands-on lab instruction, and personal student use, at no cost. The lab instructions are designed to save educators time, allowing them to focus on teaching science rather than explaining how to use GIS software.

The live webinar will cover:

– An overview of the academic labs, including the new Pixels-to-Points® lab for processing drone-captured imagery

– Information about Blue Marble’s academic licensing program

– Information on how educators can request Global Mapper’s academic materials

– Details about the Blue Marble academic scholarship for students

“We’re proud and excited to offer educators the opportunity to show their students how to use the Pixels-to-Points tool for generating point clouds, meshes, and orthoimages from drone-captured images,” says Blue Marble President Patrick Cunningham. “Not only is it a technology that makes 3D data more easily accessible, it’s also affordable — a more cost-effective option for emerging GIS professionals.”
