Zoltek Selected to Chair ASPRS Evaluation for Certification Committee, Re-Elected to Florida ASPRS Board

APOPKA, Fla. (May 24, 2019) — Woolpert Senior Project Manager Michael Zoltek has been selected to serve the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS) in two key roles. Zoltek was chosen to chair the ASPRS Evaluation for Certification Committee and was re-elected to the Florida Region of the ASPRS (FL-ASPRS) Board of Directors. This is the second consecutive two-year term for Zoltek on the FL-ASPRS board, on which he holds an at-large position. He was sworn in Thursday during the FL-ASPRS Lidar Workshop in Apopka.

Earlier this month, Zoltek also was named to a four-year term on the Florida Board of Professional Surveyors and Mappers. A licensed professional surveyor in 24 states, a Certified Federal Surveyor and a Certified Photogrammetrist, Zoltek has nearly 30 years of experience in the geospatial field and serves Woolpert’s Government Solutions market.

Zoltek is replacing retiring Past President Mike Renslow as chair of the national ASPRS Evaluation for Certification Committee. Zoltek is only the third chair of this program since it was founded by the late “Sky” Chamard in 1974. Zoltek will lead the maintenance, administration and grading of all certification exams that ASPRS offers and oversee the organization’s transition to an online application and review process. He also will be responsible for maintaining the ASPRS accreditation program with the Council of Engineering and Scientific Specialty Boards (CESB).

In 2018, ASPRS reported receiving a record 130 applications for certification and/or recertification, spurred partially by the addition of the Certified UAS Technologist certification. Zoltek has worked with Renslow to transition into this role, and the two collaborated on revising the eligibility requirements for the Geospatial Intern Program to include students who have passed post-secondary studies in the geospatial sciences.

“I am very pleased that Mike accepted the position of chairing the ASPRS Evaluation for Certification Committee,” Renslow said. “He is a perfect addition to continue the legacy of dedication needed for this important position and the reputation established by Sky and myself.”

Woolpert Senior Vice President and Director of Government Solutions Jeff Lovin, who is serving as ASPRS president-elect for 2019, said Zoltek is making great strides in advancing the organization and the industry.

“I am so proud of Mike (Zoltek) and his contributions to ASPRS, both regionally and nationally,” Lovin said. “Certification is at the heart of ASPRS, and Mike Renslow is an icon in our industry. He has done an outstanding job with this committee over the years and leaves big shoes to fill. However, I am confident that Mike (Zoltek) can and will do a great job for us all moving forward.”
