Lithuanian Transport Safety Administration Renews Partnership with Esri to Modernize Maritime Location Data Infrastructure

REDLANDS, Calif.- Esri, the global leader in location intelligence, today announced that it has contracted with the Lithuanian Transport Safety Administration (LTSA), Hydrography Division. LTSA will partner with Esri; local distributor Hnit-Baltic; and Quality Positioning Services (QPS), a Saab subsidiary, to implement a new seabed database and nautical cartography system.

LTSA, already a current user of Esri’s ArcGIS platform, will use the company’s technology to enhance the production of maritime information to meet International Hydrographic Organization and national standards. LTSA will leverage ArcGIS Enterprise to upgrade the automation of its current system and increase the productivity of electronic navigational charts, paper nautical charts, and small craft charts. Esri’s data management capabilities will also be used beyond navigational charting to share hydrographic information across industry sectors to spur maritime-related economic growth.

Esri’s technology will enable LTSA to serve the community not only through the preparation of maritime maps and charts but also to provide data in support of environmental, economic, and national security interests. LTSA’s spatial data infrastructure allows hydrographic information to be reused for a wide range of needs, increasing the value of its data.

“We are very excited to have this opportunity to support LTSA’s vision to enhance their chart creation efforts,” said Rafael Ponce, maritime consultant at Esri. “Our maritime product developers have put a lot of care into generating a streamlined workflow that reinforces the role of the government authority in nautical chart production. This new system allows cartographers to automate repeatable processes that result in higher efficiency and more robust products.”

ArcGIS for Maritime: Charting, Esri’s marine products solution, is used by companies and government agencies around the world to create and manage maritime information for navigation products and a wide variety of GIS purposes, including coastal planning, seabed analysis, and data sharing.
