Minnesota DOT Pursues Statewide Inventory of Barrier End Treatments with Continental Mapping

(Sun Prairie, WI)—February, 2017 — Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) proactively identified the need for a comprehensive inventory of barrier end treatments and associated guardrails on state owned highways.  To meet this need, MnDOT awarded a contract to Continental Mapping to complete this statewide inventory.  The Barrier End Treatment Inventory and Assessment (BETIA) project will utilize mobile lidar to collect data on the assets of interest followed by field assessment to ascertain a variety of characteristics on each barrier end treatment.

“We are excited to expand our relationship with MnDOT to include this statewide project. By the end of 2017, MnDOT will have a comprehensive barrier end treatment inventory that will lead to increased public safety while reducing future maintenance costs.”  – Tim Caya, General Manager – Transportation & Infrastructure

In addition to barrier end treatments and guardrails, Continental Mapping will leverage the comprehensive point cloud and street level imagery collected throughout the state to map additional assets.  This will result in a statewide inventory of assets within the right-of-way.  Throughout the project MnDOT will utilize TheGeoAnalyst – a software product from Continental Mapping’s software division, Foundry – to provide web-based access to the geospatial data and project metrics.
