ST Electronics launches AgilSpace GeoPortal as TeLEOS-1 satellite readies for imagery operations

Singapore Technologies (ST) Electronics, the electronics business division of defence prime Singapore ST Engineering, has launched the new AgilSpace GeoPortal e-commerce system to support the delivery of its geospatial imagery and analysis services.

The AgilSpace GeoPortal, which has been developed by its Satcom & Sensor Systems subsidiary, is a user interface that currently enables customers to purchase high resolution imagery products. The GeoPortal commenced operations on 31 May 2016.

ST Electronics is pitching the application to civilian and government agencies seeking up to date imagery intelligence to support their efforts in areas such as environment monitoring, homeland security, maritime security, as well as humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR).

According to the company, the GeoPortal features a simulation engine that provides multi-satellite orbit predictions of projected satellite passes over an area of interest. This capability enables customers to place imagery tasking orders ahead of time to meet their particular requirements.

Seah Peng Hwee, vice-president of Space Systems at ST Electronics (Satcom & Sensor Systems) told IHS Jane’s that control of TeLEOS-1 is effected via a satellite ground station located at the Centre for Remote Imaging, Sensing and Processing (CRISP), a research facility based at the National University of Singapore (NUS).

“TeLEOS-1 complements existing sun-synchronous earth observation satellites to expand the range of global imagery services for our commercial and government customers,” Seah said.

“[The satellite] has a mean revisit time of 12 to 16 hours and its coverage of the equatorial belt includes many major shipping routes as well as disaster prone regions,” he added, noting that the system can provide up to six daylight imaging opportunities per day.

Designed and developed ST Electronics’ Satellite Systems business unit – which is a joint venture between the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), DSO National Laboratories and ST Electronics (Satcom & Sensor Systems) – TeLEOS-1 was launched alongside five smaller weather and navigation satellites by the Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO’s) Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle C29 (PSLV-C29) from Satish Dhawan Space Centre into a 550 km Near Equatorial Orbit (NEqO) on 16 December 2015.
