eCognition 8.9 introduces information-rich derivative attributes created by fusing 3D point cloud information directly within 2D image pixels. This overcomes the perspective distortions inherent within 2D imagery, enabling true structure and position-based calculations. The enriched 2D analysis environment is familiar and less computing intensive in comparison to working directly within enormous point clouds collected by mobile sensors. Extracting 3D information from 2D images provides an intuitive interface that increases efficiency and helps decision makers better analyze and derive data-driven results. For example, pavement markings and the edge of roads may be better analyzed from above while road signs or light poles are preferably analyzed from the side. eCognition 8.9 allows objects to be analyzed from the most advantageous perspective, which can provide more accurate classification results faster.
“Trimble’s eCognition software is a powerful solution for analysis and extraction of information from geospatial data collected by aerial, satellite and mobile mapping platforms,” said Alain Samaha, business area director of Trimble’s Geospatial Software Solutions Division. “The latest update expands the performance with mobile mapping data, allowing customers to visualize and extract information more quickly, which can reduce project time and costs.”
eCognition 8.9 software is available now through Trimble’s eCognition distribution channels. Customers with a valid maintenance contract for eCognition will receive the upgrade.
About Trimble’s Imaging Solutions
Trimble’s Imaging solutions allow geospatial professionals to collect, process and analyse geo-referenced images and point clouds. By combining aerial and land-mobile sensor systems with digital photogrammetry, terrain modelling, image analysis, change detection and feature extraction office software, Trimble provides complete solutions for the transformation of geospatial data into geospatial intelligence enabling the conversion of “images to information.” The resulting information solutions can increase productivity and improve decision-making for Trimble’s diverse community of global customers that include survey, engineering and GIS service companies, governments, utilities and transportation authorities. Trimble’s Imaging solutions are also complemented by precision measurement tools, mobile data collection, wireless technologies, and software from Trimble’s Survey and GIS data collection portfolios to provide geospatial professionals with comprehensive field and office solutions to plan, build, manage and maintain both natural and man-made assets. Trimble applies technology to make field and mobile workers in businesses and government significantly more productive. Solutions are focused on applications requiring position or location—including surveying, construction, agriculture, fleet and asset management, public safety and mapping. In addition to utilizing positioning technologies, such as GPS, lasers and optics, Trimble solutions may include software content specific to the needs of the user. Wireless technologies are utilized to deliver the solution to the user and to ensure a tight coupling of the field and the back office. Founded in 1978, Trimble is headquartered in Sunnyvale, Calif.
