To create a digital map of the city, Corporation of Chennai has roped in a private consultant to record properties, street lights, roads and storm water drains in two areas in the city on a pilot basis. The mapping will be carried out through 3D geographical information system (GIS) mapping using LiDAR (light, detection and ranging) in selected localities of T Nagar and Sholinganallur from the first week of May. While T-Nagar is a highly commercial area, Sholinganallur, too, is witnessing huge developmental activities because of the IT boom. Read more in Times of India
