The Centre for Research and Development which is under the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development has been working on developing a Geographic Information System (GIS) for tracking trains and mobile elements, the Media Director of the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasooriya said. The collision of two trains that occurred in Potuhera last week has highlighted the need for an efficient GIS system which will keep track of trains and prevent similar accidents from taking place.
