GIS Analysis Confirms Allahabad Generates 5,34,760 kg Domestic Waste Daily

An associate professor of the department of Geography, Allahabad University, has done extensive survey with the help of GIS (Geographic Information System) and Remote Sensing to quantify the magnitude and genesis of the problem generated through domestic waste in the city. The study observed sanitary sewer overflow problem in different wards, blockage of sewer lines, improper drainage system, inadequate sewerage treatment plant, open Nalas (open drainage) pollution, flooding in over populated areas, narrow and inadequate road network, less percentage of vegetation cover, high risk of leachate (the silt composing clay and polythene) migration and lack of maintenance and renovation of old sewerage and problem created by Jal Nagam for disturbing roads.
