South Korea will launch the Arirang-5 multipurpose satellite in August in Russia. The Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning said on Thursday that it has designated August 22nd as the launch date for the Arirang 5 satellite, which will lift off from the Yasny space launch center in Russia. The ministry also designated August 23rd as a backup launch date. The Arirang 5 is the country’s first satellite with a synthetic aperture radar that allows observation of the earth’s surface even at night regardless of the weather.
