There is broad agreement that the geospatial industry is a growth industry. Additionally, a current shortage of geospatial professionals has been identified in the U.S. and Australia. In Australia alone, this figure has been estimated at between 3,000-4,000 currently unfilled positions. It is also estimated that this shortage will grow. A similar geospatial skills shortage in New Zealand was identified through an online survey of 157 organisations in the geospatial industry.
