Eric Broussouloux, IGN France International regional director in charge of the completion of the project explains: « Without mentioning the quality of the technical bid, one of the IGN FI’s offer advantages relies on the knowledge transfer. IGN France International is committed to a production entirely achieved on site, that is in the IGM’s premises and by IGM’s staff. It implies an in-depth knowledge of what the reality on the ground really is and a customized support designed specifically to meet the needs assessed.
Thus, each step of the production process will start by a relevant training given by the IGN France International experts, followed by technical assistance and production supervision.”
The objectives of this project are the following:
000 covering the entire country (the existing mapping dating back to the 60s)
and a geocatalogue
Christophe DEKEYNE, the IGN France International business development director recalls: “In the past, IGN France International already completed similar mapping projects in Africa. In 2008, for instance, IGN France International worked besides the DTGC (Direction des Travaux Géographiques et Cartographiques) to achieve the revision of the original maps at the scale of 1:200 000 of Senegal.
A similar project that will end up in February 2014 is currently in progress with the IGB, the National mapping institute of Burkina Faso.
The contribution of these mapping projects clearly demonstrates how crucial they are for the beneficiaries. For instance, right after the completion of the mapping project in Senegal, the country has continued its efforts by completing an urban cartographic database of the 7 largest towns. Geographic information remain an essential factor of economic development”
