Sri Lanka’s Environment Minister Yapa said that it is necessary to have a proper plan for development without delay. “All stakeholders have to do their development without harm to cultural and historical sites, water resources, mineral resources, eco-systems and species, agriculture and inland and marine aquatic resources,” he said. “Therefore it is necessary to identify those areas before commencing their development work. The Integrated Strategic Environment Assessment (ISEA) is an effective development or environmental management tool which create space for all stakeholders in a process of informed decision-making on the sustainable use of the natural resource base for accelerated development,” he said.
