Spatial Industries Business Association (SIBA) Establishes Pacific Islands Chapter

June 29, 2015—The Board of the Spatial Industries Business Association (SIBA) is pleased to announce the establishment of a Pacific Islands chapter, welcoming spatial organisations from the 22 islands.

Fijian Minister for Lands, Mere Vuniwaqa recently encouraged Fijian companies to use Geospatial Information – making the establishment of a SIBA chapter a timely discussion with industry leaders.

In November 2014, SIBA was invited to attend the Pacific GIS/RS User Conference in Suva, Fiji where National General Manager, Kellee Ireland met with Michael Peterson, Director of Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) and Malakai Vakautawale, Principal Geospatial Officer of the Minister of Lands and Mineral Resources (Fiji) to discuss the the feasibility of a chapter for the Pacific Islands.

The Pacific Islands Chapter of SIBA joins a strong, established organisation focused on representing companies in the spatial industry through submissions to government, providing business opportunities

through tender alerts and direct business leads, networking events, specific business tools and direct business support.

For businesses interested in joining the SIBA Pacific Islands Chapter, please contact Kellee Ireland on [email protected] or +61 02 6282 5793.

About SIBA (www.siba.com.au)

SIBA is the leading association representing the Spatial Industry. We focus on four core areas:networking, growth, support and influence at a government level. Most recently, SIBA has pioneered Project MIMOSA and the associated Knowledge Communities initiatives. We are a not-for-profit organisation and seek to inform, assist and grow private enterprise within the spatial industry.

SIBA began in 1972 as the Association of Consulting Surveyors (ACS) with a view of uniting, leading and growing business. In 2000, due to the number of associations in the market, it was decided to combine all the associations and we became known as the Australian Spatial Industries Business Association (ASIBA). In 2004 the association expanded to incorporate New Zealand, which resulted in revising the name to Spatial Industries Business Association (SIBA).
