Prima Research’s technology can be used to assure accuracy and precision of “indoor location-based systems” (ILBS). Indoor Location-Based Systems observe devices moving within defined indoor spaces and are being used to gather information by retailers, advertisers, marketers, and wireless device manufacturers, as well as wireless carriers and their equipment providers. Demand for ILBS is growing, with the market for wireless location-based applications expected to reach $20.6 billion in 2015, according to Gartner Research.
Depending on the specific implementation, the Prima Research system can locate a mobile phone in a defined space to within a few inches. Never in human history has it been feasible to observe individuals, or indeed entire populations, via wireless devices on such a scale or in such precise detail, let alone in real-time.
Current location systems detect radio signals from wireless devices in only two dimensions. The Prima Research method locates wireless devices in three-dimensional space, eliminating known problems of false position reporting, “ghosting,” and poor precision associated with two-dimensional methods.
This powerful new technology has a wide range of applications, including: improved tracking for retail and marketing research, military and government applications, first responder victim location, traffic management, and crowd observation.
Marketers can use this data to understand and act on real-time consumer behaviors, offer relevant display advertisements, and make other observations about their customers. The technology could also be used to create real-time mapping and location applications to help customers find goods within stores.
“For the first time, marketers have an ability to continuously observe consumer behavior in real time in a defined space with a sample rate typically better than 90 percent. No special apps, devices, or individual engagement are needed,” said Christopher Price, co-inventor of the Prima Research method. “The nature and scale of primary research in the real world is about to change forever.”
The U.S. Patent Office granted Prima Research LLC U.S. Patents No. 8,315,598 and No. 8,594,703. To view an FAQ and White Paper further explaining the Prima Research method, visit: http://www.primaresearch.com.
