And we’re still listening to the needs of the GNSS community, and we’re still learning, creating and innovating. That’s how we intend to lead the world for the next 25 years.
25 Years of Professional Performance Testing
The importance of rigorous, accurate testing in the development of GNSS-enabled systems that carry a responsibility for human life or national security is clear. But it’s equally important throughout the R&D and manufacture of consumer location-aware devices – if those devices are to meet user expectations, outperform competitors, and gain market share.
Spirent’s GNSS simulators have long since supported such prototyping and benchmarking: by providing the repeatable, controlled conditions that are impossible to achieve by pointing a GNSS receiver at the sky, and by delivering unrivalled functionality, flexibility and control.
Our industry-leading Record and Playback System brings this commitment to professionalism to field testing, greatly enhancing its accuracy and value. The GSS6400 can quickly and simply record a live GNSS environment, complete with serial data from a device’s internal systems and sensors. It then allows both to be played back again and again in the laboratory, enabling meaningful comparative testing, and minimising the often huge costs of this crucial stage of R&D.
25 Years of Experience
Since the earliest days of GNSS positioning, Spirent has created bespoke, individual solutions for a diverse client base, solving new testing challenges as they emerged.
The knowledge, skills and understanding we’ve accumulated from every one of these projects enable us to make not only the most comprehensive range of test systems, but the most efficient systems, and the easiest systems to use – accelerating research and speeding the development of new location-aware devices.
The default settings on our GNSS simulators are designed to offer a solid basis for many standard receiver performance tests, while our recently released TestDrive-GNSS tool provides a powerful set of ready-made scenarios, complete with automated execution and reporting.
Spirent has always worked alongside official standards authorities, and continues to do so – many use our systems to perform their regulatory tests. But as GNSS positioning finds new applications, some industries have to yet develop their own standards for receiver performance.
To help guide and support the rapidly growing GNSS community, we’ve drawn on our expertise to create a set of 9 universally applicable, fundamental GNSS receiver tests. You can learn what they are, and how to perform them, here.
