The contract has been awarded by Australia’s Cooperative Research Centre for Spatial Information and will provide data to stakeholder partners including Queensland Government’s Department of Environment and Resources Management (DERM), Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency (DCCEE), Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), and Sunshine Coast Council (SCC). The bathymetry will be combined with existing topographic LiDAR to create a seamless land /sea digital elevation model (DEM). The model will be used in climate change modelling scenarios which will assist in managing this environmentally and economically important coast; as well as the relevant shallow inland waters and lakes. This project will be used to identify a preferred methodology for modelling coastal and catchment flood hazards.
This project follows on from other important coastal zone management projects conducted by Fugro in Australia and Europe utilising the Fugro LADS Mk 3 ALB system. This system uses a sophisticated laser sensor fitted to an aircraft to accurately measure water depth and collect supporting data over both the marine and coastal zone environments. The system has been engineered and built by Fugro for safe, high-speed and cost effective surveys in clean, shallow coastal areas in depths of up to 80 metres and is available for deployment world wide.
