India will launch its indigenous Oceansat-2 satellite and six European nano satellites next month. All will be launched from the southern spaceport of Sriharikota.
No launch date has yet been confirmed.
Oceansat-2 replaces Oceansat-1, which has been in operation for the last decade. Oceansat-2 will carry an Ocean Color Monitor and a Ku-band pencil beam Scatterometer. It will also carry a radio occultation sounder – developed by the Italian Space Agency – for atmospheric studies, ISRO spokesperson S. Satish told local media.
Oceansat-2 will aid in coastal zone studies, pinpointing fishing zones and understanding surface temperature and winds, says ISRO.
