Thousands of Commercial Drone Users Convene This Week for Third Annual Drone World Expo in San Jose

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The commercial drone industry is gathering at the San Jose Convention Center for the next several days of educational sessions, demonstrations, exhibits, and workshops. With experts from various industries coming together to discuss the current applications of drone technology and the future full of opportunities for drone operators, this year is sure to be Drone World Expo’s best event yet. The trade show and conference will run Tuesday, October 3, and Wednesday, October 4, with pre-conference workshops starting today.

“We are thrilled to be back in San Jose, the heart of Silicon Valley, and gather thousands of commercial drone users to hear from over 125 speakers and see the latest technology on display and in action,” said Joelle Coretti, Vice President and Event Director. “We have a phenomenal line-up of sessions and amazing thought leaders who will be presenting the most up-to-date regulatory information, commercial applications and user cases. You never know what might be announced or unveiled at Drone World Expo and we’re excited to find out!”

The week starts off with three pre-conference workshops taking place on Monday. These workshops will discuss timely issues from three different segments of the drone industry including inspection, public safety, and agriculture. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University – Worldwide presents sUAS for Inspections; AMA, DJI and Fly-Robotics will present a Public Safety Training Workshop and MicaSense will present Sensors and Analytics for Precision Agriculture.

For the third year, Drone World Expo will offer an insightful and important education program with more than 40 sessions, focusing on the most innovative advancements in commercial drone use and technology. There will be three dynamic keynote presentations. Tuesday morning at 8:45 am, speakers from Facebook, NASA, Airbus, Project Wing, and GE Beyond will deliver Views from Above: Policy Evolution and Bold Predictions for the Future of Commercial UAS.

On Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 pm Michael Kratsios, Deputy Assistant to the President and Deputy U.S. Chief Technology Officer, will discuss U.S. technology priorities and strategic initiatives.

Wednesday’s keynote session is From Packages to Passengers: How Drones are Transforming Transportation and starts at 8:45 am with speakers from UPS, Aurora Flight Systems, NASA, Uber Elevate, and Ford Motor Company.

These sessions will also be moderated by Gretchen West, Hogan Lovells, Co-Executive Director, Commercial Drone Alliance.

Other notable events during the Expo include live demonstrations of the Lily Next-Gen Introduction and the Fruity Chutes UAS Parachute Recovery System and many others; dozens of Tech Talk presentations in the exhibit hall, press conferences, and Professional Drone Demo Day, featuring live demonstrations of UAS technology on the California Coast. There will also be valuable networking events to get to know other drone industry professionals such as the Women of Commercial Drones Roundtables and the networking receptions held both nights of the show in the Exhibit Hall. AIAA will also be presenting the winners of the IDEA Competition, encouraging new ideas that connect the UAS-related R&D and end-user communities.
